Impersonation of Immigration Officers
- Created on Thursday, 08 July 2010 00:00
The Ministry of Immigration and Registration of Persons has sounded an alert to all members of the public particularly foreigners and expatriates to be wary of conmen masquerading as immigration officers.
The investigations department of the ministry has been receiving cases of people being conned of their money by persons impersonating immigration officers claiming to be able to assist the foreigners to obtain entry permits, citizenship, passports and other immigration documents while others as police officers threatening foreign businessmen or their staff with arrest
In the last few weeks several people have been arrested harassing foreigners ostensibly with claims to provide them the immigration documents. Theses incidences are common in Nairobi Mombasa and Eldoret and other major towns.
The public is advised to demand identification cards that genuine immigration officers carry at all times and are produced on demand. When in doubt, they should visit immigration office headquarters at Nyayo House or its regional and sub regional offices in Mombasa Kisumu- Edloret and Garissa for required services.
